Yerba Mate Canarias offers a strong, aromatic flavour and is particularly finely ground. The tea is produced without stems and contains a high proportion of pure leaf, which gives it a complex flavour profile. Canarias Mate tea is characterised by a slight bitterness with a pronounced, hay-like, greenish note. This yerba is perfect for preparing as an espresso or in the traditional way as a chimarrao (southern Brazilian version of mate tea).
Canarias mate tea comes from the regions of Santa Catarina, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, where the mate trees grow in the native forest microclimate. These conditions promote the optimal development of the plants. After harvesting, the mate leaves are stored for 4 to 6 months under controlled temperature and humidity before they are ground. This careful storage contributes to the quality and long-lasting flavour of the tea. Canarias Mate tea is particularly popular in Uruguay and is considered the leading brand there.
