Aniseed is particularly well known as a spice for bread and baked goods or for making desserts. In Arabic and Indian cuisine, aniseed is also used for curries, with meat and vegetables. Aniseed has a liquorice-like, mildly sweet and sharp flavour with a woody, peppery note. Its aromas develop best when freshly crushed in a mortar.
