Pink pepper is harvested from the pepper tree, which does not belong to the pepper family (Schinus terebinthifolius, related to the pistachio or cashew plant). The coral-red stone fruits contain some piperine, which gives them the pepper-like taste, coupled with a pleasant sweet note.
